High-tech logistics in the CI-Factory
The most important component of the CI-Factory concept is the high-tech logistics system. We have one million warehouse slots, more than 13 kilometres of conveyor equipment, Europe's largest spiral conveyor and futuristic shuttles - state-of-the-art logistics solutions help our employees.

Q&A with Joscha Kahnt, who is responsible for logistics processes in the CI, and who, with his team, acts as an interface between logistics and IT.
What is special about the CI-Factory logistics location?
The intelligent logistics solutions are very operator friendly. Employees receive substantial support from the equipment. The new capacities help us to continue supplying our customers with our products as quickly as possible. Also, the warehousing is directly linked to the shoe production. The equipment supplies the required components to the production process automatically. This allows us to produce individual company shoes even in smaller quantities.
How do men and machines actually interact?
We work with fully automatic shuttles – the machines carry out the picking. The CI-logistics principle is: Bring the goods to the employees. More than 400 shuttles know precisely where which items are stored and bring them to the putting slots. A visual inspection is carried out at the 21 ergonomic workplaces. And they are packed precisely into parcels – up to 4,000 an hour.
Who can apply for the new logistics jobs ?
Trained locksmiths or warehouse clerks – we are looking for lateral entrants and logistics professionals.

Since 2012, engelbert strauss has worked successfully with the company Bremer Lagerhausgesellschaft (BLG). Together, we won the European Logistics Prize in 2015. This cooperation is continued in the CI-Factory.

Shuttle Picking
Around 400 shuttles navigate fully automatically through the aisles and bring the required items to the packing personnel.
Manual Putting
Check & Put: After a visual inspection, the item is placed in the package - and in this way we pack up to 4,000 packages an hour.
